Skiing Italian Alps March 2008

Vittoria took us to what for me must be the equivalent of Mt. Washington: the little village she went skiing at every winter growing up. We flew to Milan and stayed over Friday night in their apartment, then drove up the 2 hours Saturday morning to Monte Rosa.

It was the last weekend in March and we weren't sure what the conditions would be like but booked flights anyway. On the drive up it started to snow a LOT. We had a deep base and fresh powder with bright sunshine on Saturday - incredible.

These shots are from the highest peak there which is 2,900 metres. It was cold and stunning.

Recipe for Grola, Tyrollian alpine specialty and cure-all for aches, pains and cold:
- take one weird looking, carved wooden vessel with 6 drinking spouts
- fill one third with strong coffee
- fill one third with sugar
- fill one third with grapa
- light on fire
- replace lid
- drink
- do not ski, do not drive, do not operate heavy machinery. enjoy being anaesthetized.

Monta Rosa is the massif mountain with many peaks sticking out of the alp range.
